Knock, knock...
I enjoy a good joke, but I'm terrible at telling one. Invariably, I can't remember the punch line, or my inflection or timing is off, and my effort falls pathetically flat. For Max, however, the skills of a comedian seem to come effortlessly. On the way home from summer camp, Max served up his first real joke, punctuated with a perfect pause: "Have you ever heard a duck tell a joke? It quacks everyone up!" Given Max's disposition, is anyone really surprised?

Did you hear the piece on Morning Edition today about magicians? (It may have been one of those local things.) Anyway, while listening to it, I had the thought that Max would be a great magician. I might be completely wrong, but it seemed like something that would fit his temperament.
Funny you should mention it...he loves to act like a magician. He waves around a wand, making imaginary mischief. His favorite trick right now: "Abracadabra, mommy disappear!" I also can envision him as the circus ringmaster. Sometimes he'll announce: "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up! Welcome to my show!"
